WordCamp Jinja 2026 is powered by the community, and we would love you to be part of the team that brings it to life.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Taking place on <\/span>19\u201320 September 2026<\/b> at <\/span>Civil Service College Uganda<\/b>, WordCamp Jinja will bring together developers, designers, writers, creatives, students, educators, entrepreneurs, contributors, and WordPress enthusiasts from Uganda and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Guided by our theme, <\/span>\u201cEmbrace Creative Currents on the Nile,\u201d<\/b> this year\u2019s event will celebrate the different ideas, talents, experiences, and people flowing through our community. Volunteers will be at the heart of it all; welcoming attendees, supporting speakers, guiding activities, and helping create the friendly atmosphere that WordCamps are known for.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

You do not need to be a WordPress expert or an experienced event volunteer to apply. You only need to be helpful, dependable, willing to learn, and excited to work with others.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Why volunteer at WordCamp Jinja?<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

Volunteering is one of the best ways to experience a WordCamp from the inside. You will have an opportunity to:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

  • Contribute directly to the WordPress community<\/span><\/li>\r\n
  • Meet attendees, speakers, sponsors, and fellow volunteers<\/span><\/li>\r\n

  • Learn how a community-led technology event is organised<\/span><\/li>\r\n
  • Attend sessions outside your assigned volunteer shifts<\/span><\/li>\r\n

    Volunteer roles<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

    There are unlimited ways to help, and we will try to match selected volunteers with roles that suit their interests, experience, and availability.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    Registration and Welcome Desk<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

    Be one of the first friendly faces attendees meet. You will help with:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

      \r\n
    • Welcoming and checking in attendees<\/span><\/li>\r\n
    • Distributing badges and event materials<\/span><\/li>\r\n
    • Answering general questions<\/span><\/li>\r\n
    • Directing attendees to the correct rooms and activities<\/span><\/li>\r\n
    • Supporting ticket and registration enquiries<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

      Speaker Support<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

      Help our speakers feel prepared and supported by:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

        \r\n
      • Welcoming speakers when they arrive<\/span><\/li>\r\n
      • Directing them to the speaker area and session rooms<\/span><\/li>\r\n
      • Confirming their presentation time<\/span><\/li>\r\n
      • Helping them connect with the audiovisual team<\/span><\/li>\r\n
      • Making sure they have what they need before their session<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

        Attendee Support and Information<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

        Help attendees navigate the venue and enjoy the event by:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

          \r\n
        • Giving directions<\/span><\/li>\r\n
        • Answering questions about the schedule<\/span><\/li>\r\n
        • Helping attendees locate facilities and activity areas<\/span><\/li>\r\n
        • Supporting attendees who require additional assistance<\/span><\/li>\r\n
        • Escalating concerns to the appropriate organising team member<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

          Contributor Track and Hackathon Support<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

          Our contributor track will run alongside community hackathon and do_action activities. Volunteers in this area may:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

            \r\n
          • Direct participants to the right teams, rooms and tables<\/span><\/li>\r\n
          • Assist facilitators with materials and room setup<\/span><\/li>\r\n
          • Support first-time contributors<\/span><\/li>\r\n
          • Keep activity spaces organised and welcoming<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

            You do not need previous contribution experience to volunteer in this area. Guidance will be provided.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

            Photography and Media Support<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

            Help us capture and share the story of WordCamp Jinja through:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

              \r\n
            • Event photography<\/span><\/li>\r\n
            • Short video clips and interviews<\/span><\/li>\r\n
            • Social media updates<\/span><\/li>\r\n
            • Collecting speaker and attendee highlights<\/span><\/li>\r\n
            • Organising approved media files after the event<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

              Applicants interested in photography or media may be asked to share examples of their previous work.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

              Logistics and Venue Support<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

              Help with the practical details that keep the event running, including:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

              • Preparing rooms and activity spaces<\/span><\/li>\r\n
              • Arranging signs, tables, chairs, and event materials<\/span><\/li>\r\n
              • Supporting meal and refreshment distribution<\/span><\/li>\r\n
              • Restocking supplies<\/span><\/li>\r\n
              • Helping with setup before the event and packing up afterwards<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                Accessibility and Inclusion Support<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

                Help us create an event where attendees feel welcomed and supported. This may include:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                  \r\n
                • Helping attendees find accessible routes and seating<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                • Offering clear directions and practical assistance<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                • Watching for barriers that may affect participation<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                • Directing concerns to the organising team<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                • Supporting a respectful and inclusive event environment<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                  After-party and Social Activities<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

                  Help attendees continue connecting after the main programme by:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                    \r\n
                  • Checking entry or tickets<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                  • Welcoming and directing guests<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                  • Helping manage event materials<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                  • Assisting the organising team throughout the activity<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                    The final roles may change as the event programme and venue arrangements are completed. Selected volunteers will receive their assignments and schedules before the event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                    Who should apply?<\/b><\/p>\r\n

                    We welcome applications from:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                    • Students and recent graduates<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                    • Developers, designers, writers, and creatives<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                    • Educators and community organisers<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                    • Technology and open-source enthusiasts<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                    • People volunteering at a WordCamp for the first time<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                    • Anyone interested in learning, helping, and meeting new people<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                      You do not need advanced technical knowledge. Some roles require familiarity with WordPress or event production, but many simply require enthusiasm, kindness, and a willingness to support others.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                      Applicants should be able to attend WordCamp Jinja in person and participate in the volunteer orientation.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                      What we expect from volunteers<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

                      As a WordCamp Jinja volunteer, we ask you to:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                        \r\n
                      • Be welcoming, respectful, and helpful<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Arrive on time for assigned shifts<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Follow instructions from volunteer and organising team leads<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Communicate early if your availability changes<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Work cooperatively with other volunteers<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Treat attendees, speakers, sponsors, and team members with respect<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Follow the WordCamp Jinja Code of Conduct<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Wear your volunteer identification or T-shirt while on duty<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                      • Help us create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                        These expectations reflect the approach taken by other WordCamps, where volunteers are asked to maintain a positive attitude, work well with others, follow the Code of Conduct, and help create a welcoming atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                        Time commitment<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

                        Volunteers will be assigned specific shifts based on the event programme and their availability. We will aim to create a balanced schedule so that volunteers can help the event while still having time to attend sessions and enjoy the WordCamp experience.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                        Some roles may require availability:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                          \r\n
                        • Before the event for orientation or setup<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                        • On one or both event days<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                        • Early in the morning before attendee registration<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                        • After the programme for packing up<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                        • During the after-party or another community activity<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                          Please provide your availability honestly in the application form. The final volunteer schedule will be shared with selected applicants before the event.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                          What selected volunteers receive<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

                          As a thank-you for contributing your time and energy, selected volunteers will receive:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                          • A complimentary ticket to WordCamp Jinja 2026<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                          • An official volunteer Event T-shirt<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                          • Meals and refreshments during assigned event shifts<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                          • Access to event sessions outside their volunteer shifts<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                          • Volunteer orientation and role guidance<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                          • Recognition on the WordCamp Jinja website<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                            Please note that volunteering is an unpaid community role. Volunteers are responsible for their own travel and accommodation unless the organising team communicates otherwise.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                            Volunteer orientation<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

                            Selected volunteers will be required to attend an orientation session before the event.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                            During orientation, we will:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                              \r\n
                            • Introduce the volunteer and organising teams<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                            • Explain the event programme and venue layout<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                            • Review volunteer responsibilities<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                            • Discuss the Code of Conduct and escalation procedures<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                            • Confirm shifts and role assignments<\/span><\/li>\r\n
                            • Answer questions and help everyone feel prepared<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

                              Additional on-site instructions may be provided before the event begins. Volunteer onboarding and orientation are standard parts of the selection process at many WordCamps.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                                  Previous experience is welcome, but it is not required. Please apply even when this would be your first time volunteering at a WordCamp.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

                                  Applicants will be contacted after the application period closes. Selected volunteers will receive details about orientation, shifts, roles, and the next steps.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
